Steve hosted the Variety Club lunch at the historic Jesmond Dene House in June 2011. It was a special presentation to Her Grace The Duchess Of Northumberland. The Duchess was presented with the prestigious Variety Club Silver heart, the highest accolade the charity can bestow. A very keen gardener, it was a the vision of the Duchess to create Alnwick garden.

Also at the event were Lady Diana Cowie, and Lady Elsie Robson. Making the presentation was Bob Flowerdew. Bob Flowerdew is a TV presenter and one of Britain's best-known organic gardeners; he also regularly appears on Radio 4's Gardeners' Question Time.

As well as all the introductions, Steve hosted the auction / raffle and question and answer session with both the Duchess and Bob Flowerdew.

The auction prizes were very kindly donated by Denise Welch, Tim Healy & Kim Gladwin. Denise and Tim gave a day out for four ladies on the set of Loose Women, with Denise being their guided tour, as well as being able to see the show filmed live.

Kim made a lovely cake in the style of a Variety Club heart. To find out more about Kim's cakes for weddings and events, visit; www.lovecakebykim.com

There was beautiful music and vocals throughout the afternoon from harpist Jan Bennett
